People's Play Award 2018

Deadline: 31st August 2018

This award is aimed at playwrights from the North of England who are yet to have a full-length play performed professionally. Past winners include Peter Straughan (Wolf Hall, TV mini-series; Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, BAFTA winning screenplay) and Alison Carr (Iris, Live Theatre; Fat Alice, Traverse Theatre). The winning writer will be awarded £1,000, and their play will receive a five night production by the People’s Theatre in May 2019. Find out more info

Hampstead Theatre: The Inspire Programme 18/19

Deadline: 3rd September 2018

Open to anyone between 18-25 years old. The selected playwrights will have the opportunity to develop their craft under the mentorship of award-winning playwright Roy Williams for one year to develop and complete a full length play. Beginning in November 2018, the playwrights will attend monthly group sessions with Roy and visiting practitioners, as well as one-on-one meetings.  A bursary of £200 is offered towards travel. GRAEae: Write to Play

Deadline: 3rd September 2018

Graeae’s flagship new writing programme is devoted to developing the skills and experience of D/deaf and disabled writers nationwide. The programme will offer 1:1 mentoring, craft-focused writing workshops, specialist master classes led by leading playwrights and practitioners, a two-week placement at one of their partner organisations, and the opportunity to develop two short pieces and a full length play, and to share work-in-progress with an audience.The programme will run from January 2019-December 2019.
